It’s just a game: Yes, thank you Captain Obvious. If you want to get me cranky in a jiff, using the line “It’s just a game” is a great way to do it. What boggles my mind is that people tend to throw this out as if it’s some how going to make things okay, calm you down or be taken as an acceptable excuse for ones actions. Yes, it is a game, and games are meant to be played. That’s the bloody point of a game, if I wanted to guess what something is I’d play deal or no deal, if I wanted to shoot squirrels I’d play Hey let’s shoot Squirrels!, if I want to play a game of skill and deception well, hey, that’s what mafia is for. Sadly most don’t get this concept as frequently I will run into some idiot who will do nothing and then suddenly guess who mafia might be and screw it up, resulting in my throbbing head veins. That’s where that wretched line comes in. Yes, it is a game, a game you spent doing bugger all and only now feel like joining the rest of us. Oh mighty Stupid, show us simpletons how it’s done! No, it doesn’t matter if there is no justification to your vote or any reason what so ever to your actions, we don’t mind. We don’t care if you take away the enjoyment of the game; after all, it’s just a game! Games don’t need to be fun, not at all! You know, in High school I was on the hockey team and one game where we were up against some school I forget several of my team members were standing around talking. After telling them to get back to the game I got that line “It’s just a game” and I wanted nothing more then to beat them with my hockey stick. Well, naturally, my team lost due to their lack of participation and the rest of us couldn’t enjoy our game. The point of this you ask? If you don’t want me to beat you with a hockey stick then play the damn game as it’s supposed to be played. |
