Setup 693, Classic Mafia, is the first ever classic mafia setup. This setup was created by Veiexku on 2 July 2008. The roles included in this setup are 3 Villagers, 2 Mafias, a Doctor, and a Cop. This setup is night start and is currently the preferred and most popular ranked setup in Training Lobby.

Strategy

Strategy in this setup depends on who dies N1.

* Cop dies (16.667%) Villager.png3Mafia.png2Doctor.png

On D1, town has a 15.833% chance of winning. You NL and wait for the death of N2. At this point, doctor should not protect anyone. If villager dies, doctor outs, and if counterclaimed, lynch between doctors. If doctor dies N2, rely on scumhunting. If no one dies N2, continue not lynching.

* Doctor dies (20%) Villager.png3Mafia.png2Cop.png

Cop does not out if they have an innocent report. They may choose to out with a guilty report. If you are a villager, PLEASE DO NOT TRUST ANYONE CLAIMING COP! In fact, I think that you should lynch people claiming cop this early. As cop you may wish to softclaim your role on D1. Otherwise, NL. If cop dies N2, rely on scumhunting. If not, then cop outs reports. In this case mafia will usually counterclaim cop.

* Villager dies (50%) Villager.png2Mafia.png2Doctor.png Cop.png

A cop and a mafia will usually claim cop. If you are cop and have an innocent, you can out them if you feel that mafia will kill you for no clears on 3-way LYLO. Otherwise, do not out innocent. If you have a guilty, out it. Proceed with NL if town wants more reports. Proceed with a risk lynch if you feel that you know who is mafia. If on MYLO, another villager dies, doctor must out in this situation the other mafia will counterclaim one of the roles. Otherwise, it's pure 50-50.

Common Scenarios on D1:

If the real cop has inno on graveyard OR does not out inno OR has guilty on his cop cc - mafia successfully sacrificing the cop increases their win rate to 55.556%.

If A guilties B, and C guilties D, then E and F are clear. E and F should request B and D to role reveal to find out which pair is town.

If A guilties B, and after sufficient time, B counter claims cop: If A is the real cop, the chance of this occurring is 50%; If A is mafia, the chance of this occurring is 20%.

* No one dies (13.333%) Villager.png3Mafia.png2Doctor.png Cop.png

The cop must claim in this situation, and mafia may choose to claim cop if they wish, but they must be very careful. If both cops have innocent, lynch between cops. If one cop has guilty, lynch the guilty unless the guilty is the counterclaim. Doctor may wish to reveal to introduce an additional clear if the heal target is not one of the cops or clears. If cop dies on lynching cop claims, rely on pure scumhunting. Otherwise, cop will continually get reports and eventually hunt the mafia unless doctor dies N2.

* Miscellaneous comments

Most people would normally say you ALWAYS NL on MYLO. This is generally true, but you may want to take it into consideration. If a villager dies, you have a choice, so there is no big deal. If nobody dies, people will say that if you have a mislynch, you should use the mislynch (probably on cop claims). If a doctor dies, you should no lynch because if you are wrong you will lose because of no protection. However, the case that can be countered is cop death. On cop death, people will say nl so doctor does not get outted. Firstly, no lynching does not do you any good. Mafia can kill a townie (and that townie could be doctor) and decrease the town's chances of winning, or they will no kill, making the town angry because the meteor is apparently on the town at that point. If doctor protects nobody, they are more informed of this and they would lynch the next day. By then, the mafia would have a good amount of information, whereas if you lynch day 1, you don't give mafia any additional information, giving a possible doctor save, and most importantly, you DO NOT LOSE IF YOU LYNCH WRONG. Remember, the doctor can save unless you lynch the doctor or they die night 2, and that slight chance could make a big difference, and if you do lynch mafia and doctor saves, the town could be rewarded with an extra mislynch, which is also beneficial.

In a scenario with Villager.png Mafia.png2Doctor.png Cop.png , you must lynch between cops for a 50% town win. Lynching between doctors or villagers is a 25% town win.

A common town strategy when there are five players remaining and a clear has been established, is to ask for the roles of the other two non-cop players to be declared simultaneously. This may enable the clear to determine which of them is scum, and if there are set Cop/Player pairs, which pair is incorrect.

Alternate Mafia Strategies

On the first night, you should normally kill. If you decide to gamble for a doc save on you, it's going to be very risky (28.57% Chance). If cop dies first night, it is also a great strategy to not kill as there is no report and a 40% chance that mafia will get saved. A fair gamble.

If you are mafia, and you are CCing cop, you should try your best to make your partner confirmed mafia. Once you do, the clear on 3-way LYLO will have a hard time thinking about the reports, and thus this makes it 50-50, whereas if you lynch between cops, town learns more from it, which is bad. If you are mafia and doctor dies, try claiming cop with a guilty. The town will have a chance of sheeping you, but chances are, since there is no ML, the town is going to go further into the thinking and find out whether or not this person could be real, lying or even bussing. You have to try your best to clear yourself. For instance, after two villagers die on two nights, doctor is going to claim remember to ALWAYS counterclaim your CC (not necessarily by role). This way, you have decent chances of succeeding. If it is found out by someone, it will instantly blow up in your face, so please consider carefully.

This setup is suitable to those new to Epicmafia.
