Hypo Cop

Hypo Copping is a strategy used when there is an investigative role with no protection. This is done by all of the town claiming cop and posting a report. This way, if the cop is killed at night, you can look back and see his report.
The Origins of this term is unknown, but it was popularized when Sex and Lies was competitive.

Controversy!

Note that there is not consensus among the EM community about the effectiveness of hypo-cop. While it may seem to be helpful to the town, it is also known to have originated by someone playing as mafia, since the strategy is often more helpful to the mafia than it is to the town.

To a certain extent, whether hypo-cop is pro-maf or pro-town may depend on the setup. For example, in the 8-player setup of doc, cop, 4 blue against stalker and vanilla this strategy is often used when the doc dies night one. But, in that situation it helps the mafia more than it helps the town, since mafia will almost certainly know who the cop is due to info from combining the stalking report with the hypo-cop reports. If town had not used hypo-cop then the mafia would have had only the one stalker report to use in detecting the cop, and will most likely not kill the cop, leaving the cop alive to give two real reports the following day (when it is 5-player lylo).

Some players, such as ran4sh, will never use this strategy. In addition, use of this strategy may be considered as a scumtell.

Flaws

While Hypo Copping is generally a good idea, there are certain things that makes it flawed.
First off, the mafia can eliminate any players that report a false report, ex. someone reports inno on a mafia.
New Players are not recommended to use this as it can get confusing.
In No Reveal or Disguiser setups, the cop's identity is not known for sure.
