Strategies and Tactics
Playing As Cop
- If there is a doctor or bodyguard and no driver or hooker, claim out loud to be protected.
- If there are no whispers, keep the investigation to yourself (unless it outs the mafia)
- If there are whispers, it depends on the situation. Usually it's wise whispering the innocent, HOWEVER sometimes it might out the power roles, give Yakuza a cleared target, expose the cop by leaked whisper, in games with miller/traitor/lawyer/godfather investigation could be false, etc.
- If the doctor/bodyguard dies, and you have already let everyone know you are the cop, it can be beneficial to tell the town who the innocent reports are on before going into the night again. This is due to the fact that you will, most likely, be killed that very next night. The only time that this is unwise is when there is a lawyer/godfather, and on certain cases with a living Yakuza.
- If you are blocked by the hooker in a game with whispers, there's a good chance the mafia doesn't know that you are the cop yet. However, if the village fails to hear a report from the cop, the mafia will figure out that they hooked the cop, and then they will know who you are. Therefore, in that situation it is strongly recommended to fake a cop report. It may be best to fake a report on yourself, saying that you are sided with the village. However, clear players may be targetted by the mafia, so this may blow up in your face.
- The three "Special" cops usually goes along with the regular cop: Insane, Naive, and Paranoid. Usually, the best option is just do a cop mass-claim, and see who's naive/paranoid/regular. If there's an Insane cop, it's gonna take a little longer to figure out.
- A Snoop can find Paranoid, Insane, and Naive Cops. It appears as a suit. If You have a snoop, get them to check you to find if you are a Special cop or not.
- If you are unsure of your sanity and don't want to risk lynching a townie, at night check a clear power role that you know is town, and see if they come up innocent or guilty.
- When in a game with special cops, THINK. Don't hurry lynching someone because you found out he's mafia. You could be insane or paranoid.
- If, when you investigate someone, you get a guilty Day 1, don't out it immediately. Say "Cop here with a guilty" and then ask "Any CCs?". This prevents the person whom you got a guilty on from CCing after they find out who it is. It may be optimal to fake an inno report untill you are uncc'd.
- Note: This is not true. Waiting to out a guilty often seems scummy to town. Also, if you out a guilty on your cc before he claims, you have a much better chance of getting them lynched.
- Unless there is a stalker in the game, there is no harm in immediately saying who your guilty is, particularly if the town has a mislynch. If your guilty report counter-claims you before you say your report, your report will have been rendered useless.
